Why Arizona Hearing Specialists for Management of Your Sound Sensitivity?

Experienced Audiologists Each audiologist at Arizona Hearing Specialists holds a doctorate in audiology. The audiologists specializing in sound sensitivities participate in ongoing continuing education, with each completing a minimum of 10 hours annually. All audiologists hold either a certificate of clinical competence in audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or a fellowship with the American Academy of Audiology, in addition to an Arizona state licensure.

Extensive Training The audiologists in the Tinnitus and Sound Sensitivity Program have completed extensive training in sound sensitivity issues, including hyperacusis and misophonia. Each holds an additional certification in tinnitus and sound sensitivity management from the American Board of Audiology. Their expertise in the evaluation and management of tinnitus and sound sensitivity includes various management options. They are continually developing their skills and updating themselves on the most excellent evidenced-based practices, such as acquiring certifications in the management of unresolved chronic mind-body symptoms like persistent, bothersome sound sensitivity.

Comprehensive Patient Care It costs $295 out-of-pocket to enroll in the AHS Tinnitus and Sound Sensitivity Program. All testing that can be billed to insurance will be done accordingly.

Two separate appointments are included when enrolling — A 90-minute initial assessment appointment and a management planning appointment that takes place one to two weeks later.

Psychosocial evaluation — Each patient will complete a packet of questionnaires and provide their background history to assess individual needs and factors affecting their perception of sounds.

Comprehensive hearing evaluation — The audiologist will perform a complete hearing test, which may include additional specialty tests, to determine whether hearing loss or damage to the auditory systems exists.

Thorough consultation — The audiologist will review, explain and discuss the results in detail, ensuring each patient clearly understands their hearing health and what affects and generates sound sensitivity for their individual experience.

Management — Depending on the patient’s unique situation, we’ll recommend strategies to help reduce sound sensitivity’s impact on their well-being. Treatment plans may include hearing aids, sound therapy, hearing protection, stress management, sleep hygiene, alternative stimulation devices, biofeedback and referrals, among other tactics.

Ongoing support — As part of patient management, we’ll schedule follow-up appointments to map progress and modify the treatment plan as needed. Our goal is to help each patient find long-term relief.
