While this may sound too good to be true, I\u2019m here to tell you that they do actually exist. The device is called Lyric<\/a>; it is the world\u2019s first extended-wear hearing aid. Lyric is meant to be worn 24 hours a day<\/strong>, seven days a week, for up to four months at a time<\/em>. What is Lyric?<\/h2>\n

Lyric<\/a> is placed deep in the ear canal, just 4mm from the eardrum. It then simply stays in place while you go about your regular routine. The device is safe to wear during all your normal activities including showering, exercising, sleeping and talking on the phone. You read that right – it is safe to leave in while you shower.<\/p>\n

How Does Lyric Work?<\/h2>\n

Much like a traditional hearing aid<\/a>, Lyric relies on the outer ear\u2019s natural anatomy to direct sound to the device, which is then amplified and sent to the eardrum. This allows for improved directionality and localization (the ability to tell where sounds are coming from) and sound that is clear and natural. The deep placement of the device helps minimize the occlusion effect and reduce feedback.<\/p>\n

A special coating protects the device from moisture and earwax. A soft foam seal ensures the device fits securely and comfortably and prevents it from slipping around. Almost 94 percent of Lyric users rate the comfort as better than their previous hearing aids, and 86 percent report very natural sound quality.<\/p>\n

Who Can Use Lyric?<\/h2>\n
