The American Tinnitus Association reports that as many as 50 million Americans experience tinnitus, a condition marked by ringing, buzzing, hissing or whistling in the ears with no external sound source. Unfortunately, unless the underlying cause of the tinnitus<\/a> can be identified and treated, there is no cure. However, a number of strategies are available to help manage it. In fact, one recent study found that yoga can help reduce tinnitus symptoms.<\/p>\n

What did the study on tinnitus and yoga find?<\/h2>\n

recent study in Poland<\/a> examined how 12 weeks of yoga affected 25 patients with chronic tinnitus. Ten of these patients underwent MRI scanning before and after training, and all patients were assessed using the Tinnitus Functional Index.<\/p>\n

At the end of the study, the areas of most benefit for participants were control over tinnitus, sleep and quality of life. MRIs showed that connections of white matter in the motor cortex were also stronger.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoga training has good potential to improve the daily functioning of patients with chronic tinnitus and can be considered a promising supporting method for tinnitus treatment,\u201d the article, published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice<\/em><\/a>, reported.<\/p>\n
